No. 723 76R13238 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Jim Reno on his selection as the Texas State Artist for 1997-1998 1-3 in the category of three-dimensional media; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Reno is an esteemed resident of Kerrville whose 1-5 bronze statues of horses and notable Texans have earned him acclaim 1-6 throughout the world; in addition to the fame he has earned for his 1-7 skills as an artist, he is well known as a cutting horse trainer 1-8 and competitor; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Reno was selected as a Texas State Artist based 1-10 on the merit of his work, his life achievements, his portrayal of 1-11 Texas' artistic and cultural heritage, donations of artwork he has 1-12 made to community or charitable organizations, critical reviews and 1-13 articles regarding his work, and letters of recommendation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Included among the many memorable pieces created by 1-15 Mr. Reno during his 50-year career are depictions of such prominent 1-16 figures in the state's history as Charles Goodnight, Robert Justus 1-17 Kleberg, Jr., and Quanah Parker, as well as a variety of smaller 1-18 limited edition pieces of Native Americans, horses, longhorns, and 1-19 cowboys; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Jim Reno has ably depicted and preserved for all 1-21 time the rich cultural heritage of this state, and in doing so he 1-22 has enabled people the world over to experience the grandeur of the 1-23 Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Jim Reno on his selection as the 2-2 Texas State Artist for 1997-1998 in three-dimensional media and 2-3 commend him for his extraordinary contributions to the State of 2-4 Texas; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Mr. Reno as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives.
