R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
1-2 congratulate Leon Burkham on his retirement from the Knox City
1-3 Independent School District, concluding an outstanding career
1-4 dedicated to educational excellence; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born on April 24, 1936, Mr. Burkham attended Abilene
1-6 Christian College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in
1-7 education in 1958; continuing his pursuit of academic excellence at
1-8 Sam Houston State University, he earned a master's degree in
1-9 agriculture education in 1959; and
1-10 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator began his teaching career at
1-11 Vernon North Side in 1959 and moved to Knox City two years later;
1-12 during nearly three decades as an integral part of the Knox City
1-13 Independent School District, Mr. Burkham has endeavored to provide
1-14 an environment of learning, support, and encouragement for his
1-15 students; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Burkham and Leona Magee met while both were
1-17 students at Abilene Christian College; the couple married on
1-18 December 22, 1955, and have enjoyed a close and happy relationship
1-19 that has been blessed with two sons and a daughter; through the
1-20 years, the couple have welcomed five grandchildren into their
1-21 close-knit family; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Leon Burkham has set high
1-23 standards to which all educators may aspire, and he is indeed
1-24 worthy of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th
2-2 Texas Legislature hereby commend Leon Burkham for his dedication to
2-3 the students of Knox City Independent School District and extend to
2-4 him sincere best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and,
2-5 be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for Mr. Burkham as an expression of high regard by the
2-8 Texas House of Representatives.
