R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Carl Barton, Jr., served with
1-2 distinction as the mayor of the City of Conroe from 1979 to 1989;
1-3 and
1-4 WHEREAS, Acting on the belief that open spaces, green belts,
1-5 and recreational facilities are vital to the life of the community,
1-6 Mayor Barton was instrumental in the establishment of a parks and
1-7 recreation system for the City of Conroe; and
1-8 WHEREAS, The growth of Conroe has led to an increased demand
1-9 for outdoor recreational facilities to support the needs of an
1-10 active community, and increasingly urban environments make it
1-11 necessary to preserve a portion of our forests and woodlands as
1-12 sanctuaries for wildlife and as places of quiet reflection; and
1-13 WHEREAS, In the spirit of Mayor Barton's philosophy, the City
1-14 of Conroe has established a new 200-acre regional park, which
1-15 includes six new soccer fields and four new baseball fields, with
1-16 space for the future development of nature trails, a fishing pond
1-17 and piers, eight additional baseball fields, and three additional
1-18 soccer fields; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Conroe's new regional park has been named "Carl
1-20 Barton, Jr., Park" in honor of the distinguished former mayor, and
1-21 this endeavor is indeed worthy of special recognition; now,
1-22 therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the Honorable Carl Barton, Jr.,
2-1 for his enduring contributions to the quality of life enjoyed by
2-2 the residents of Conroe, and that the members of the Conroe City
2-3 Council be congratulated for establishing the Carl Barton, Jr.,
2-4 Park.
