                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The members of the Navarro High School Panthers
 1-2     football team demonstrated their formidable athletic talents in an
 1-3     outstanding 1998 season, and it is indeed fitting to pay tribute to
 1-4     them at this time; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Entering the season, Navarro had lost 23 consecutive
 1-6     games, including an 0-10 record in the 1997 campaign; in what
 1-7     proved to be one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Texas high
 1-8     school football history, the 1998 squad astoundingly posted a 10-2
 1-9     record, were co-champions of District 29-2A, and advanced to the
1-10     second round of the state playoffs; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Head Coach Lin Havron and his coaching staff
1-12     skillfully guided the Panthers to a school record 10 wins and their
1-13     first ever postseason victory; drastically improved play on both
1-14     sides of the ball, and the stellar performances of junior tailback
1-15     Ricky Barboza, who rushed for 1,243 yards during the season, and
1-16     senior quarterback Michael Shehane, were instrumental in the 1998
1-17     success; and
1-18           WHEREAS, This remarkable season would not have been possible
1-19     without the determined seniors leading the way; they include Keenan
1-20     Yanity, Allan Pringle, Adam Leal, Chris Walker, George Hartman,
1-21     Steven Ethridge, Derek Henk, Cody Nelms, Darrin Klaehn, Kevin Ivy,
1-22     Kyle Kutscher, Barry Jaroszewski, and Michael Shehane; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The dedication and competitive spirit of all the
1-24     members of the Navarro High School football team are truly
 2-1     commendable, and for their exceptional 1998 gridiron performance
 2-2     they are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be
 2-3     it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby honor the members of the Navarro High School
 2-6     Panthers football team for their impressive accomplishments during
 2-7     the 1998 season and extend to them sincere best wishes for
 2-8     continued success; and, be it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10     prepared for the Navarro High School Panthers as an expression of
2-11     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
