                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Tommy "T. C." Calvert of San Antonio has long been
 1-2     an outstanding civic leader, and he is truly worthy of special
 1-3     recognition in light of his many years of hard work and diligent
 1-4     community service; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman graduated from George W.
 1-6     Brackenridge High School in 1971, attended San Antonio College, and
 1-7     later received a certificate of completion in dispute resolution
 1-8     from St. Mary's Law School as well as an honorary doctor of
 1-9     humanity degree from Guadalupe College in Seguin; he has also
1-10     completed numerous additional education and training endeavors and
1-11     recently became a Licensed Chemical Dependence Counselor Intern;
1-12     and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Calvert has been a dedicated community leader
1-14     for more than 25 years and currently donates his time to 55
1-15     nonprofit community-based organizations; he holds the office of
1-16     president of the Neighborhood First Alliance and serves as
1-17     executive director of the Southwest Community Empowerment Center,
1-18     and he has also served as project coordinator for San Antonio
1-19     Fighting Back and as special project officer for the Eastside San
1-20     Antonio Economic Development Council; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In addition to participating in numerous antidrug
1-22     groups, Mr. Calvert has been active with such worthy organizations
1-23     as the National People's Action Organization, Environmental Toxic
1-24     Leadership Team, Corporate Responsibility and Jobs subcommittee,
 2-1     Davis Scott YMCA Advisory Board, and Friendship Baptist Church;
 2-2     other organizations that have benefited from his involvement
 2-3     include Frontline 2000, San Antonio Coalition for Environment and
 2-4     Economic Justice, United Homeowners Improvement Association, Booker
 2-5     T. Washington Instructional Leadership Team, and Wheatley Middle
 2-6     School PTA; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, His diligent civic efforts have brought millions of
 2-8     dollars in grants to the community and have addressed such
 2-9     important issues as education, housing, employment, drug
2-10     prevention, youth activities, and crime; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Some of the well-deserved accolades Mr. Calvert has
2-12     received include the YMCA Candle Lighter Award, an Outstanding
2-13     Community Service Award from the United Way of San Antonio, a Texas
2-14     War on Drugs Youth Leadership Conference Award, a Community
2-15     Achievement Award from the San Antonio City Council, and others too
2-16     numerous to mention; and
2-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Calvert has also been listed in Who's Who in
2-18     American Politics, Personalities of America, and Personalities of
2-19     the South, and has received certificates of appreciation from the
2-20     Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Raul Jiminez
2-21     Thanksgiving Dinner, the San Antonio Independent School District,
2-22     and St. Philip's College; and
2-23           WHEREAS, Tommy "T. C." Calvert has distinguished himself as a
2-24     vital and valued member of his community, and it is most fitting
2-25     that he be recognized for his myriad accomplishments at this time;
2-26     now, therefore, be it
2-27           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 3-1     Legislature hereby honor Tommy "T. C." Calvert for his many civic
 3-2     contributions and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 3-3     success and happiness; and, be it further
 3-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 3-5     prepared for Mr. Calvert as an expression of high regard by the
 3-6     Texas House of Representatives.
