                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Guadalupe de la Garza's career with Steves and Sons
 1-2     in San Antonio spanned more than seven decades of dedicated
 1-3     service, and his longtime commitment to his employer is indeed
 1-4     worthy of special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in 1906, Mr. de la Garza
 1-6     moved to San Antonio at the age of two; he attended Brackenridge
 1-7     High School before accepting a position at what was then known as
 1-8     Steves Sash & Door, at the age of 16; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This dedicated gentleman began his employment on May
1-10     22, 1922, and within seven months of his hiring he was promoted to
1-11     the position of foreman and cutter, and this achievement is
1-12     representative of the level of service that framed the many years
1-13     of hard work he provided for the company; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Known by his colleagues as a loyal and able worker,
1-15     Mr. de la Garza retired in 1992 at the age of 86; he celebrated his
1-16     92nd birthday on December 18, 1998, and he attributes his good
1-17     health to a healthy diet and to the daily four-mile walks he made
1-18     through the plant for so many years; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. de la Garza was married to
1-20     Ventura de la Garza for 64 years, until her passing in 1993, and
1-21     together they raised seven children, Viola, Rebecca, Bertha,
1-22     Rachel, Guadalupe, Jr., Carlos, and Lorenzo; and he has 27
1-23     grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 4
1-24     great-great-grandchildren; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Mr. de la Garza's remarkable tenure as an employee
 2-2     of Steves and Sons earned him the lasting respect and admiration of
 2-3     his friends, family, colleagues, and community, and his many years
 2-4     of exceptional service have not been forgotten; now, therefore, be
 2-5     it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby commend Guadalupe de la Garza for his
 2-8     achievements and extraordinary service to Steves and Sons and
 2-9     extend to him best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
2-10     further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mr. de la Garza as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
