R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Outlaw Trail Riders are hosting the George
1-2 "Boo-Ga-Loo" Frazier and Radio Personality "Disc Jockey"
1-3 Compensation Fund Benefit on May 2, 1999, and this outstanding
1-4 occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize Houston radio
1-5 legend Rick Roberts; and
1-6 WHEREAS, For many years the African American community was
1-7 poorly represented on the Houston airwaves, but in the late 1940s
1-8 radio stations with African American formats began to emerge,
1-9 boasting a host of talented and pioneering disc jockeys; and
1-10 WHEREAS, One such station was KYOK-AM, and among its many
1-11 standout radio personalities was Mr. Roberts; his engaging radio
1-12 presence was frequently welcomed into many a home and provided
1-13 countless hours of entertainment to his devoted listeners; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Rick Roberts has truly distinguished himself as a
1-15 broadcasting trailblazer in Houston, and it is indeed fitting to
1-16 pay tribute to him at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-18 Legislature hereby honor Rick Roberts for his significant
1-19 contributions as a Houston radio broadcaster and extend to him
1-20 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
1-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-22 prepared for Mr. Roberts as an expression of high regard by the
1-23 Texas House of Representatives.
