No. 760 76R13469 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in recognizing Rose Marie Banks Graham of Houston, a lifelong Texas 1-3 educator who, in the course of helping countless youngsters achieve 1-4 their dream of graduation, will mark the 50th anniversary of her 1-5 own graduation from college; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on September 28, 1928, Mrs. Graham 1-7 learned early the importance and value of education; after 1-8 attending Booker T. Washington High School, she graduated from 1-9 Tillotson College with a bachelor of science degree in 1949; and 1-10 WHEREAS, She went on to earn a master's degree in education 1-11 from Texas Southern University in 1956 and began a 35-year tenure 1-12 with the Houston Independent School District as a respected and 1-13 highly valued member of the teaching staffs at Brock, Atherton, and 1-14 J. C. McDade elementary schools; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Before her retirement in 1984, she served as 1-16 coordinator of a federally funded program designed to provide 1-17 financial assistance to meet the special needs of children in 1-18 low-income areas; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Through the years and throughout her many roles as 1-20 educator, Mrs. Graham has been recognized as Teacher of the Year at 1-21 J. C. McDade Elementary School, presented with the Outstanding 1-22 Services Award from HISD, and honored for Outstanding Service as 1-23 President of the Huston-Tillotson College Alumni Association's 1-24 Houston chapter; she has also volunteered much time and effort for 2-1 a variety of charitable and civic causes, including the American 2-2 Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American 2-3 Kidney Fund, the Student Recruitment Committee for the 2-4 Huston-Tillotson College Alumni Association's Houston chapter, and 2-5 the congregation at Windsor Village United Methodist Church; and 2-6 WHEREAS, For all her many accomplishments and good works, 2-7 Mrs. Graham has found the most reward and satisfaction in being a 2-8 mother blessed with three loving children, and in serving as doting 2-9 grandmother to four beloved grandchildren; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Education is perhaps the most fulfilling, and 2-11 trying, occupation, one to which Mrs. Graham wholeheartedly devoted 2-12 her career, and in light of the many Texans she has helped during 2-13 her 35 years in teaching, it is indeed appropriate to salute her, 2-14 in this her anniversary year; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby honor Rose Marie Banks Graham on the 50th 2-17 anniversary of her graduation from college and extend to her 2-18 warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Mrs. Graham as an expression of highest regard by the 2-21 Texas House of Representatives.
