R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 recognize April 1999 as Wildflower Month in DeWitt County and 1-3 DeWitt County as the Wildflower Capital of Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Each spring, and especially during the month of 1-5 April, the highways and roadsides of DeWitt County are ablaze with 1-6 color as vibrant displays of wildflowers delight countless visitors 1-7 from throughout the state, the nation, and the world; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Highways and Transportation 1-9 employs extensive measures to ensure the preservation of wildflower 1-10 species, including the bluebonnet, our state flower, along 1-11 maintained highway boundaries, and to assure that future 1-12 generations may continue to enjoy this spectacular rite of spring, 1-13 property owners are encouraged to initiate the growth and maintain 1-14 the beauty of Texas wildflowers; and 1-15 WHEREAS, More than 1,000 species of wildflowers grow in 1-16 DeWitt County; in one recent April, the DeWitt County Wildflower 1-17 Association identified and exhibited more than 200 specimens and 1-18 registered more than 2,000 visitors from 132 Texas cities, 31 1-19 states, and six foreign nations, including former First Lady of the 1-20 United States Lady Bird Johnson, and it is indeed appropriate to 1-21 join with all who have enjoyed the beauty of this fine county to 1-22 recognize it at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby recognize April 1999 as Wildflower Month in 2-1 DeWitt County and DeWitt County as the Wildflower Capital of Texas 2-2 and commend its citizens for their outstanding efforts in promoting 2-3 and protecting this much-loved natural resource of the Lone Star 2-4 State.
