R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 16-year-old Jaime Ray Kear, a true Texas hero, for his quick 1-3 thinking in an emergency recently saved the life of his 1-4 grandfather; and 1-5 WHEREAS, On March 7, 1999, the teenager arrived home shortly 1-6 after his grandfather, Dale Garvin, had suffered a heart attack 1-7 while getting into his truck; while other family members called 1-8 9-1-1, Mr. Kear determined that his grandfather had no pulse and 1-9 was not breathing, pulled him from the truck to lay him on the 1-10 driveway, and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until 1-11 paramedics arrived; and 1-12 WHEREAS, It was the opinion of the paramedics on the scene 1-13 that without the young man's adept performance of CPR before their 1-14 arrival, Mr. Garvin could not have been revived; equally impressive 1-15 is the fact that Mr. Kear had received no formal training in the 1-16 lifesaving technique but had actually only seen the procedure 1-17 demonstrated on the television series "Baywatch"; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This outstanding young man aspires to a career as a 1-19 firefighter; he attends L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, where his 1-20 extracurricular pursuits include football and weight lifting; his 1-21 proud family also includes his parents, Cindy and Kenneth Garvin, 1-22 and two sisters, Alex and Toni; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Kear's immediate response in the face of his 1-24 grandfather's life-threatening heart attack is most deserving of 2-1 special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby commend Jaime Ray Kear for the role he played in 2-4 saving the life of his grandfather and extend to him best wishes 2-5 for happiness and success in the future; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for Mr. Kear as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-8 House of Representatives.
