R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The 65th birthday of a notable Texan is indeed an 1-2 occasion worthy of special recognition, and on April 21, 1999, 1-3 Pattie Bernice Deal-Jeffries celebrated this memorable milestone in 1-4 her life; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Richmond, Kentucky, on April 21, 1934, 1-6 Ms. Jeffries furthered her education at the Cincinnati Business & 1-7 Professional School and Central State University, and it was during 1-8 this period in her life that she began her accomplished career as a 1-9 model; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Ms. Jeffries modeled for some of the top fashion 1-11 houses during the 1950s and became well-known for her "one woman" 1-12 fashion shows; she later won acclaim as "Cindy Hamilton," the name 1-13 she used for her weekly newspaper column and a locally broadcast 1-14 radio program that focused on the interests of homemakers; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A pioneer in the fashion industry, Ms. Jeffries 1-16 served as a positive influence for women throughout the United 1-17 States, and her determination to succeed provided African-American 1-18 women, in particular, with a tenacious leader as she distinguished 1-19 herself over the course of her successful career; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, this compassionate woman 1-21 has been active in a variety of community outreach projects in 1-22 addition to her membership at Bethel Baptist Church, where she is 1-23 currently serving her fourth consecutive term as chair of the board 1-24 of trustees; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Devoted to her family as well, Ms. Jeffries wed 2-2 Franklin Deal in 1953, and lovingly raised three children, Pamela, 2-3 Tina, and Kevin; this remarkable woman has long been an inspiration 2-4 to her many friends and family members, and it is truly a pleasure 2-5 to join them in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Pattie Bernice Deal-Jeffries on the 2-8 occasion of her 65th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes 2-9 for continued happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Ms. Jeffries as an expression of highest regard by the 2-12 Texas House of Representatives.
