R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Gretchen Beatty, a sophomore at San Jacinto College
1-2 South, has distinguished herself among her fellow students as an
1-3 exemplary leader and an outstanding student; and
1-4 WHEREAS, After a five-year stint working in the private
1-5 sector, Ms. Beatty returned to school to complete her education,
1-6 and her efforts in this regard have been nothing short of
1-7 inspirational; and
1-8 WHEREAS, This remarkable young woman is an active member of
1-9 Phi Theta Kappa, serving as vice president of service, and she was
1-10 named to the 1999 Phi Theta Kappa Texas All-State Academic Second
1-11 Team; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In addition to excelling academically, Ms. Beatty
1-13 has also established a reputation as a civic-minded citizen, for
1-14 she has helped to organize a number of successful events, including
1-15 an Oprah's Angel Network Change Drive, a literacy program, and a
1-16 book drive; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The recipient of the Thomas M. Spencer Memorial
1-18 Scholarship, Ms. Beatty maintains a 4.0 grade point average while
1-19 working part-time as a budget analyst for the International Space
1-20 Station; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Recently honored by the Texas Association of
1-22 Community Colleges, Gretchen Beatty has earned the respect and
1-23 admiration of her family, friends, and fellow students, and it is
1-24 indeed a pleasure to commend her at this time; now, therefore, be
2-1 it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby recognize Gretchen Beatty for her commitment to
2-4 excellence as a student and for her noteworthy academic
2-5 achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
2-6 success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for Ms. Beatty as an expression of high regard by the
2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
