No. 793 76R12451 JBR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dixie Earlene Kirkpatrick Sullivan of Houston will 1-2 celebrate her 80th birthday on July 17, 1999, and this memorable 1-3 occasion is indeed worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sullivan was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on 1-5 July 17, 1919; after graduating from high school she moved to 1-6 Arkansas to attend school and work, and it was during that time 1-7 that she met John L. Sullivan, whom she married in 1937; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Following extensive travel throughout the United 1-9 States while Mr. Sullivan was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of 1-10 Engineers, the young family moved to Houston in 1943; they were 1-11 blessed with three children, Katherine, Jackie, and Jimmie, as well 1-12 as six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sullivan worked for her husband's construction 1-14 business until his passing in 1973, and then she became a design 1-15 consultant for Leggett's Fabrics in downtown Houston, a position 1-16 she holds to this day; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sullivan has served numerous civic and 1-18 charitable organizations; in 1973 she was appointed precinct judge 1-19 and she holds that position today; in addition, she was elected to 1-20 the State Democratic Executive Committee from Senate District 6 in 1-21 1998 and has dedicated countless hours to the promotion of voting 1-22 and good government; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Known for her fun-loving spirit, this outstanding 1-24 woman continues to observe her Irish heritage with a celebration on 2-1 St. Patrick's Day each year; she has truly been an inspiration to 2-2 her many friends and family members, and it is indeed a pleasure to 2-3 join them in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Dixie Earlene Kirkpatrick Sullivan 2-6 on the occasion of her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best 2-7 wishes for continued happiness and good health; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for Mrs. Sullivan as an expression of high regard by the 2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
