R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     Hank Sames III on his selection as the 1999 Laredo Business Person
 1-3     of the Year by the Small Business Committee of the Laredo Chamber
 1-4     of Commerce; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The president and owner of Sames Motor Company and
 1-6     Sames Automotive, Inc., this esteemed gentleman represents the
 1-7     fourth generation of his family to own and manage the successful
 1-8     automotive business, and he is proud to guide the enterprise that
 1-9     was started in 1910 by his great-grandfather, William J. Sames, and
1-10     his partner, James Moore; and
1-11           WHEREAS, When Ford began offering auto franchises in the
1-12     early 1900s, unassembled cars were shipped by train to dealers, and
1-13     Mr. Sames and Mr. Moore opened the Laredo Auto Sales Company with
1-14     three cars that they had assembled themselves; and
1-15           WHEREAS, During its history of service to the Laredo
1-16     community, this remarkable family-owned business has relocated and
1-17     prospered, and today four locations offer automobile sales and
1-18     service; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Sames generously supports the community that has
1-20     patronized his family's business since its inception; in 1997, he
1-21     established the Salute to Education Scholarship Program and
1-22     presented $500 scholarships to 30 deserving Laredo high school
1-23     seniors; the next year he gave 40 scholarships, and this year a
1-24     total of 50 students will benefit from his generosity and devotion
 2-1     to young people; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Hank Sames III exemplifies the dedication to
 2-3     professional service, quality merchandise, and fair business
 2-4     practices that have been the hallmark of his family's business for
 2-5     89 years in the Laredo community, and he is indeed deserving of
 2-6     special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate Hank Sames III on his selection as
 2-9     the 1999 Laredo Business Person of the Year and extend to him
2-10     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
2-11     further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for Mr. Sames as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-14     House of Representatives.
