No. 798 76R14179 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate Minnie Abrego-Sanchez of San Antonio on being named a 1-3 distinguished alumna of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor; and 1-4 WHEREAS, An eighth grade language arts/English teacher at 1-5 Tafolla Middle School, Ms. Abrego-Sanchez was recognized for her 1-6 outstanding professional achievements and contributions to her 1-7 community; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Her passion for teaching fosters an atmosphere of 1-9 learning that is fun and motivational for her students, who praise 1-10 their teacher as "cool"; this esteemed educator credits one of her 1-11 former teachers with influencing her choice of occupation, and she 1-12 promotes teaching as a career option for her students; she is also 1-13 diligent in her efforts to promote in her students self-confidence, 1-14 assertiveness, respect for others, and value for others' opinions; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, Ms. Abrego-Sanchez shares her enthusiasm and 1-17 commitment with numerous professional and community organizations; 1-18 she is a member of the American Federation of Teachers, serving on 1-19 its Consultation Team and chairing its Consultation Advisory 1-20 Committee; she is also president of the Central Catholic High 1-21 School JROTC Booster Club; and 1-22 WHEREAS, She was instrumental in implementing a statewide 1-23 leadership program for women through the San Antonio chapter of the 1-24 Mexican American Business and Professional Women's Club; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Her well-deserved honors include induction into the 2-2 San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame, a listing in Who's Who Among 2-3 American Teachers, selection for the San Antonio Leadership 1990 2-4 class, and being named Woman of the Year by the Mexican American 2-5 Business and Professional Women's Club; and 2-6 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Abrego-Sanchez enjoys the 2-7 support of her family, which includes her husband, Joe Sanchez, and 2-8 their two children, Joseph and Marissa; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Minnie Abrego-Sanchez exemplifies the highest 2-10 qualities of the teaching profession, and she is truly worthy of 2-11 special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby congratulate Minnie Abrego-Sanchez on her 2-14 receipt of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Distinguished 2-15 Alumni Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued 2-16 success and happiness; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Ms. Abrego-Sanchez as an expression of high regard by 2-19 the Texas House of Representatives.
