No. 802 76R14015 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in honoring the efforts and achievements of the Youth Department of 1-3 Houston's Union Memorial United Methodist Church, for the 1-4 dedication and many good works of its members indeed merit special 1-5 legislative recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The youth department was founded in 1956, under the 1-7 leadership of Pastor R. H. White, with Sister Jewel McGowen serving 1-8 as youth counselor; presently led by Reverend Charles Monette, Jr., 1-9 with Sister Stella Brewer and Sister Anita Haney as youth 1-10 coordinators, this group of bright and energetic Texas youngsters 1-11 is an inspirational example for their peers statewide; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The department has sponsored and coordinated a 1-13 variety of programs and projects ranging from the church's Youth 1-14 Choir to a basketball tournament at Hester House, and the 1-15 organization is making a positive difference in the lives of many; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, The recently sponsored first annual Easter egg hunt 1-18 for the church's youngest members was a huge success, and the group 1-19 will celebrate its first Scholarship Banquet on Friday, May 14, 1-20 1999, at the Kashmere Multi Service Center; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In commitment to community, in self-respect and 1-22 responsibility, and in belief and commitment to education, the 1-23 participants in the Union Memorial youth group have earned the 1-24 respect and admiration of all Texans, and it is indeed appropriate 2-1 to honor this exemplary group at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby commend the members and staff of the Youth 2-4 Department of Union Memorial United Methodist Church and extend to 2-5 all those associated with this worthy organization warmest best 2-6 wishes for great success and happiness in the future; and, be it 2-7 further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the group as an expression of highest regard by the 2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
