R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Don E. Granger of Grangerland has made extraordinary
 1-2     contributions to countless students in the State of Texas as a
 1-3     teacher and coach, and his accomplishments are worthy of special
 1-4     recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A graduate of Conroe High School, Mr. Granger
 1-6     received football scholarships to attend Navarro Junior College and
 1-7     Midwestern University, where he attained his bachelor of science
 1-8     degree and teaching certificate; he later earned his master of arts
 1-9     degree from Sam Houston State University; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Granger began his career as a teacher and coach
1-11     at Cleveland Junior High School in 1957, and for six years he
1-12     successfully directed the football, basketball, and track teams
1-13     before moving on to West Orange High School as an assistant coach;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, He served for four years as a coach and athletic
1-16     director at Splendora High School, then joined the staff at
1-17     Magnolia High School as head basketball coach; during the 1971-72
1-18     season he guided the Bulldogs to a district championship with a
1-19     record of 33-6; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Although he retired from coaching in 1973, he
1-21     continued to work with students as a classroom teacher at Conroe
1-22     High School until 1985; a long-time member of the Texas High School
1-23     Coaches Association, he designed the emblem that became the
1-24     official logo of the association; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, In addition to teaching, Mr. Granger has devoted his
 2-2     considerable talents to such varied ventures as owning a hardware
 2-3     store, managing apartments, working in the insurance industry, and
 2-4     serving as president of Texas Banc of Saving; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, He is an outstanding patriot and served his nation
 2-6     with distinction as a member of the U.S. Army from 1953-55; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Throughout his exemplary career, Mr. Granger was a
 2-8     positive force in the lives of his many students and players and it
 2-9     is truly appropriate that he be commended at this time; now,
2-10     therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby honor Don E. Granger for his achievements as an
2-13     educator and coach and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
2-14     future; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for Mr. Granger as an expression of high regard by the
2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
