R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in congratulating Dr. Gleniece Robinson of Dallas on receiving a 1-3 1999 Women of Spirit Award, for this high honor indeed merits 1-4 special legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Women of Spirit Awards are presented by the 1-6 American Jewish Congress Southwest Region's Commission for Women's 1-7 Equality to women who have been diligent and spirited in their 1-8 pursuit of social justice; Dr. Robinson will be honored with the 1-9 award at a presentation on May 11, 1999, in Dallas; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson is a graduate of the University of 1-11 Michigan with both a master's degree and a doctorate in library and 1-12 information science; she is currently the director of the Fort 1-13 Worth Public Library, and she has served as the assistant director 1-14 for public services of the Dallas Public Library; and 1-15 WHEREAS, In addition to her respected career with area 1-16 libraries, Dr. Robinson is an esteemed consultant, most notably 1-17 with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., for whom her 1-18 invaluable service includes the establishment of church libraries 1-19 around the country; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In 1994, in recognition of her competence and 1-21 concern, she was appointed to serve on the State of Texas 1-22 Historical Records Advisory Board by Governor Ann Richards; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The first African American to serve as president of 1-24 the largest state library association in the nation, Dr. Robinson 2-1 was elected to lead the Texas Library Association in 1998; she is a 2-2 dynamic and committed force within her community too, particularly 2-3 through her work with the Good Street Baptist Church; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Her husband, Harry Robinson, is the director of the 2-5 African-American Museum in Dallas, and together this proud and 2-6 generous couple have set a determined course for awareness and 2-7 inclusion that is both inspirational and exemplary; in light of the 2-8 great honor Dr. Robinson has earned for herself and shared with her 2-9 community, it is justly fitting to recognize her at this time; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Gleniece Robinson on receiving 2-13 a 1999 Women of Spirit Award and extend to her warmest best wishes 2-14 for even greater success and happiness in the years to come; and, 2-15 be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for Dr. Robinson as an expression of highest regard by 2-18 the Texas House of Representatives.
