                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Frank K. Mitchell of Roby on December
 1-2     20, 1998, at the age of 80, has brought a great loss to the family
 1-3     and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Mitchell was born in Justin on
 1-5     February 6, 1918, to Elsie Lee and Joseph David Mitchell; he
 1-6     graduated from Sylvester High School in 1934 and honorably served
 1-7     his nation during World War II with the 691st Tank Destroyer
 1-8     Battalion in Europe; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, His bravery and ability in combat were rewarded with
1-10     a battlefield commission to the rank of lieutenant while serving
1-11     under General George S.  Patton, a distinction of which he was
1-12     immensely proud; after returning to Texas, Mr. Mitchell married
1-13     Marjorie Aaron on Valentine's Day 1948, and their long and happy
1-14     union was blessed with two daughters, Sharon and Barbara; and
1-15           WHEREAS, For 34 years, he served as executive officer of the
1-16     Fisher County Agricultural, Stabilization, and Conservation
1-17     Service; Mr. Mitchell believed deeply in the importance of family
1-18     farms and was an ardent proponent for the improvement of rural
1-19     Texas areas; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell was an active and faithful member of
1-21     the Roby Church of Christ, as well as the Texas Farmers Union and
1-22     the Fisher County Historical Commission; he was past president of
1-23     the Fisher County Hospital District and a member of the hospital
1-24     board for several years, in addition to his roles as a founding
 2-1     member and former president of the Sylvester-McCaulley Water
 2-2     Corporation, which he served for 35 years; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell was a true son of Texas who loved his
 2-4     family, community, state, and nation, and though his presence will
 2-5     be deeply missed, his spirit will surely live on in the hearts and
 2-6     minds of all those who were privileged to know him, and it is
 2-7     indeed appropriate to honor his memory at this time; now,
 2-8     therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank K. Mitchell and
2-11     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-12     beloved wife, Marjorie; to his daughters and their husbands, Sharon
2-13     and R. G. Holston and Barbara and Lee Swan; to his grandchildren,
2-14     Michelle Short, Robert Holston, Jeremy Holston, Jennifer Holston,
2-15     and Richard Johnson; to his great-grandchildren, Mitchell Short and
2-16     Chelsea Short; to his brother, Foy L. Mitchell; to his sisters,
2-17     Audie Burk and Dora Dee Mitchell; and to his many nieces and
2-18     nephews; and, be it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-21     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-22     Frank K. Mitchell.
