                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of August Meduna on November 16, 1998,
 1-2     at the age of 89, brought a great loss to the many friends and
 1-3     relatives of this esteemed public servant; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Bastrop County, he lived all his life on
 1-5     a ranch about eight miles from Smithville, where until just a few
 1-6     years ago, Mr. Meduna and his wife, Minnie,  grew vegetables and
 1-7     raised laying hens; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, This devoted couple enjoyed a happy and rewarding
 1-9     relationship that was based on a solid foundation of mutual love,
1-10     respect, and trust, and these values fostered a warm and caring
1-11     environment that nurtured their family of two sons and one
1-12     daughter; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Meduna was a highly respected Bastrop County
1-14     constable and one of the oldest active law enforcement officers in
1-15     Central Texas; first elected in 1951, he won his last political
1-16     race at the age of 87 with two-thirds of the vote; and
1-17           WHEREAS, For more than four decades, he worked hard to ensure
1-18     the safety and welfare of Bastrop County citizens, interrupting his
1-19     career as constable only once for a seven-year period to work for
1-20     the Texas Department of Corrections; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of
1-22     Mr. Meduna will long miss his presence, and he will surely be
1-23     remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to
1-24     come; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby honor the memory of August Meduna and extend
 2-3     sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Minnie
 2-4     Meduna; to his sons, August Meduna, Jr., and Gary Meduna; to his
 2-5     daughter, Ruth Holder; and to the many other friends and relatives
 2-6     of this fine man; and, be it further   
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
 2-9     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-10     August Meduna.
