R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     Adrian Rodriguez of El Paso for receiving the Truman Scholarship,
 1-3     and, in recognition of this achievement, it is indeed fitting that
 1-4     we pay tribute to this remarkable Texan for his many
 1-5     accomplishments; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A legislative aide for State Representative Norma
 1-7     Chavez, Mr. Rodriguez attends The University of Texas at Austin and
 1-8     studies government and economics; he plans to graduate in 2000,
 1-9     after which time he would like to pursue degrees in law and public
1-10     policy; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez is the recipient of several awards,
1-12     including a University of Texas Presidential Scholarship award and
1-13     a Distinguished Scholar award, and his personal goals to work on
1-14     economic development issues for and bring jobs to the border area
1-15     clearly illustrate his commitment to the people of this growing
1-16     region; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Individuals who are named Truman Scholars are
1-18     selected on the basis of their leadership potential, intellectual
1-19     ability, and the likelihood of "making a difference"; Mr. Rodriguez
1-20     was one of 79 students nationwide to have been honored with this
1-21     award and was chosen from a field of 657 candidates; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation was named
1-23     for the former president and established by Congress in 1975 as the
1-24     federal memorial to our 33rd president; scholarships are awarded to
 2-1     college students who are planning careers in government or some
 2-2     other form of public service; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Adrian Rodriguez is a man who has demonstrated
 2-4     exemplary dedication in attaining his higher education; his energy,
 2-5     enthusiasm, and determination typify the finest qualities of our
 2-6     state's people, and he is indeed deserving of legislative
 2-7     commendation for his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be
 2-8     it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby commend Adrian Rodriguez for receiving the
2-11     Truman Scholarship and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2-12     continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of highest regard by
2-15     the Texas House of Representatives.
