No. 843 76R14192 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Diana Jane Walker has been chosen the 1999 Woman of 1-2 the Year by the Nacogdoches branch of the American Association of 1-3 University Women (AAUW), and in light of this outstanding honor and 1-4 her many years of community service, she is truly worthy of special 1-5 recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, At the 15th Annual Woman of the Year Awards Banquet 1-7 held on April 12, 1999, Mrs. Walker received this prestigious 1-8 accolade from the AAUW, a national organization that was founded in 1-9 1881 to promote equity and the advancement of women through 1-10 education; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The distinguished leadership Mrs. Walker 1-12 demonstrated to earn this noteworthy distinction includes being 1-13 active with the Nacogdoches Independent School District School 1-14 Board, with the Organized Mothers Club, as a PTA president, and as 1-15 co-founder of the Junior Forum; she additionally organized the 1-16 Nacogdoches Parent Action Committee, sesquicentennial celebration, 1-17 and East Texas Blood Center Board and co-organized the Samaritan 1-18 Counseling Center Board; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Voted "One of Nine Who Make a Difference in East 1-20 Texas" by KTRE-TV, Mrs. Walker has also donated her time to the 1-21 United Way, Crime Stoppers, East Texas Treatment Center, Boy Scouts 1-22 of America, Nacogdoches Downtown Business Association, and Main 1-23 Street Committee; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Currently this esteemed woman serves as president of 2-1 Nacogdoches Antique Dealers, on the executive board of the 2-2 Nacogdoches Downtown Business Association, as secretary of the 2-3 Nacogdoches Convention Visitors Bureau, and as chairman of the Nine 2-4 Flags Christmas Festival; she also contributes her talents as a 2-5 member of Zeta Sorority, Four Seasons Garden Club, 4F Club, 2-6 Historic Nacogdoches, Inc., and United Nacogdoches; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Diana Jane Walker is a dedicated community leader 2-8 whose philanthropic efforts have greatly benefited the citizens of 2-9 Nacogdoches and the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting that 2-10 she be recognized at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby congratulate Diana Jane Walker on her receipt of 2-13 the 1999 Woman of the Year award from the Nacogdoches branch of the 2-14 American Association of University Women and extend to her sincere 2-15 best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-17 prepared for Mrs. Walker as an expression of high regard by the 2-18 Texas House of Representatives.
