                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The teachers, staff, and parents of the Los Obispos
 1-2     Middle School community in Laredo endeavor to educate all students
 1-3     to achieve high levels of academic performance so that they may
 1-4     successfully contribute and participate in today's ever changing
 1-5     society; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Los Obispos Middle School proudly serves a community
 1-7     that is experiencing tremendous growth, and the school expects to
 1-8     educate approximately 1,000 youth during the 1999-2000 school year,
 1-9     many of them special education, bilingual, economically
1-10     disadvantaged, or at-risk students; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Forming an innovative partnership, Los Obispos
1-12     Middle School and Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, have
1-13     initiated a collaborative project titled "Students in Free
1-14     Enterprise," which enables students from the college to travel to
1-15     Los Obispos Middle School to teach students about America's free
1-16     enterprise system and to boost students' self-esteem; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Los Obispos Middle School is also working with the
1-18     Webb County Community Outreach Program to educate students about
1-19     the natural resources of Texas by providing them with outings to
1-20     such scenic locations as the Lost Maples State Natural Area,
1-21     Bandera, and Mustang Island; these educational opportunities are a
1-22     direct result of the school's collaboration with such esteemed
1-23     educational partners as Webb County Judge Mercurio Martinez,
1-24     members of the Webb County Commissioners Court, and the Texas Parks
 2-1     and Wildlife Department; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Enabling young Texans to achieve their true
 2-3     potential through education is vital to securing a prosperous
 2-4     future for our state, and the accomplishments of those individuals
 2-5     associated with Los Obispos Middle School in this regard are indeed
 2-6     worthy of special praise and recognition at this time; now,
 2-7     therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby commend the students, parents, faculty, and
2-10     staff of Los Obispos Middle School for their many significant
2-11     achievements and extend to the school's delegation a warm welcome
2-12     on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol; and, be it
2-13     further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for prominent display at Los Obispos Middle School as an
2-16     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
