No. 855 76R14342 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Victoria High School Victoriadores drill team 1-2 has brought great acclaim to its school and community with its 1-3 remarkable achievements during the 1998-1999 school year, which 1-4 included winning prestigious national and international 1-5 competitions; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The drill team, comprising 89 varsity and 60 junior 1-7 varsity members, won the first in a trio of impressive victories 1-8 when they were selected for a first-place award at a national dance 1-9 contest held at Sea World in San Antonio on March 28, 1999; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Southeast Texas team then journeyed to Long 1-11 Beach, California, to participate in the Miss Drill Team USA 1-12 Pageant and Competition on April 10, and its members placed first 1-13 in high kick, military, and show events and second for their 1-14 lyrical routine; they received top honors for highest overall team 1-15 score, earning another first-place rating, a trophy, and $2,000 in 1-16 prize money; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The following day, this talented group of young 1-18 people received the highest honor by winning first place in the 1-19 Miss Drill Team International Pageant and Competition when they 1-20 competed with extremely skilled teams from Japan, Australia, New 1-21 Zealand, South Africa, and Mexico in their first appearance in this 1-22 highly regarded contest; and 1-23 WHEREAS, "Circle of Life" is the title of the drill team's 1-24 elaborate show production, a routine featuring acrobatic movement, 2-1 colorful costumes, and complex sets that require 80 man-hours of 2-2 setup time; and 2-3 WHEREAS, These dedicated and determined young ladies have 2-4 represented our state with grace and style, and it is a pleasure to 2-5 honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the internationally 2-8 renowned Victoria High School Victoriadores drill team on their 2-9 receipt of three first-place awards during their impressive 2-10 1998-1999 season; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the drill team as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
