R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Since 1965, the Community Council of South Central
1-2 Texas, Inc., has ably served the counties of Atascosa, Bandera,
1-3 Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina,
1-4 and Wilson; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Community action agencies were created as the
1-6 Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed into law, and the
1-7 35-year history of these organizations has been characterized by
1-8 the promotion of self-sufficiency for individuals with limited
1-9 income; and
1-10 WHEREAS, The innovative and cost-effective programs
1-11 championed by the Community Council of South Central Texas, Inc.,
1-12 have had a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals
1-13 and families in Texas, while also contributing to the reform of the
1-14 welfare system; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Providing individuals and families of limited income
1-16 with opportunities to improve their lives and their living
1-17 conditions is essential to ensuring that all citizens are able to
1-18 live in dignity, and the ongoing efforts of the Community Council
1-19 of South Central Texas, Inc., continue to play a significant role
1-20 in the promotion of this worthwhile goal; now, therefore, be it
1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-22 Legislature hereby recognize May 1999 as Community Action Month in
1-23 Texas and encourage citizens of the Lone Star State to continue to
1-24 wage war on poverty by providing support and opportunities for all
2-1 citizens in need of assistance; and, be it further
2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-3 prepared for the Community Council of South Central Texas, Inc., as
2-4 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
