By Bosse H.R. No. 869 76R15110 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate John R. Painter, Jr., on his selection as the 1-3 district governor of the Rotary Club of North Shore for 1999-2000; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A South Carolina native, Mr. Painter moved to 1-6 Houston with his family as a teenager; he graduated from 1-7 Channelview High School in 1959 and continued his pursuit of 1-8 academic excellence at Lee College in Baytown; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman served his country with 1-10 distinction as a member of the Texas Air National Guard for more 1-11 than seven years, and he received an honorable discharge with the 1-12 rank of staff sergeant; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Painter and his wife, Diane, attend Holy Trinity 1-14 United Methodist Church, and they take great pride in their 1-15 close-knit family, which includes their three children and one 1-16 grandchild; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A Rotarian since 1984, Mr. Painter served as 1-18 assistant district governor for 1997-1998 and has been active in 1-19 the Youth Exchange; he was named Rotarian of the Year in 1991, is a 1-20 multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and earned a perfect 14-year 1-21 attendance record; and 1-22 WHEREAS, He has participated in the Rotary Club of North 1-23 Shore as a board member and has held the offices of president, 1-24 treasurer, and secretary; in addition, he has chaired numerous 2-1 district committees and has hosted district, district assembly, 2-2 world community service, and GSE team members conferences; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Painter has shared his time and energy with many 2-4 other worthy organizations as well; he is president of the board 2-5 of the National Tooling & Machine Association and the YMCA and 2-6 serves on the board of the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce 2-7 and the advisory board of the Galena Park Independent School 2-8 District; he has also contributed his talents as a member of the 2-9 Auction Committee of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and as 2-10 secretary of the Houston Association of Steel Plate Fabricators; 2-11 and 2-12 WHEREAS, His well-deserved honors include being named Small 2-13 Businessman of the Year by the Lions Club of Channelview and 2-14 selected as a recipient of the YMCA's Volunteer of the Year and 2-15 Clyde Speed awards; and 2-16 WHEREAS, John R. Painter, Jr., is truly an inspiration to all 2-17 who know him, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition at 2-18 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-20 Legislature hereby congratulate John R. Painter, Jr., on his 2-21 selection as district governor of the Rotary Club of North Shore 2-22 for 1999-2000 and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 2-23 success and happiness; and, be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 prepared for Mr. Painter as an expression of high regard by the 2-26 Texas House of Representatives.
