R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Elizabeth Galley Wilson of Waxahachie
 1-2     on November 12, 1998, at the age of 87, brought a great loss to the
 1-3     family and many friends of this remarkable woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A Lubbock native, Mrs. Wilson was a proud graduate
 1-5     of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Southwestern Assemblies of
 1-6     God University in Waxahachie, Texas Christian University, Yale
 1-7     University, the University of North Texas, and the College of
 1-8     Chinese Studies; she was also a valued member of Delta Kappa Gamma
 1-9     sorority; and
1-10           WHEREAS, An ordained Assemblies of God minister, Mrs. Wilson
1-11     served as a missionary to northern China in the time shortly before
1-12     World War II; when conflict arose between China and Japan she
1-13     sought refuge in the Philippines, where she helped found the Bethel
1-14     Bible Institute; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the American
1-16     forces pulled out of the Philippines, and she was then a Japanese
1-17     prisoner of war from December 27, 1941, to February 3, 1945; for
1-18     demonstrating true courage during this trying time Mrs. Wilson was
1-19     awarded an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon on May 11, 1945, by the
1-20     commanding general of the United States Armed Forces in the Far
1-21     East; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In 1948 she moved to Waxahachie, where she taught
1-23     and served in numerous administrative capacities at Southwestern
1-24     Assemblies of God University, holding the title of professor
 2-1     emeritus at the time of her death; along with her late husband,
 2-2     Reverend Arthur Wilson, she had served as a missionary in West
 2-3     Africa, which led her to write the book Making Many Rich, a history
 2-4     of the Assemblies of God in Africa; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Although Elizabeth Galley Wilson is deeply missed,
 2-6     her spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of all those fortunate
 2-7     enough to have known her, and it is indeed fitting to honor her
 2-8     memory at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Elizabeth Galley
2-11     Wilson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
2-12     her brother, George Galley, and his wife Jane; to her nieces and
2-13     nephews; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it
2-14     further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-17     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-18     Elizabeth Galley Wilson.
