                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, May has been designated "National Older American
 1-2     Month," and the Texas House of Representatives takes great pride in
 1-3     joining Nueces County Community Services in celebrating this
 1-4     special event; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The contributions of the older citizens of Texas and
 1-6     this nation cannot be overstated, for their experience and wisdom
 1-7     are vital components of today's society; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Preparing for the future requirements of our senior
 1-9     citizens is a timely issue for Texas and America, as the number of
1-10     elderly Lone Star residents will continue to grow as life
1-11     expectancy is extended and the postwar baby boom crests; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Throughout the month of May, Nueces County Community
1-13     Services will celebrate the achievements and contributions of
1-14     senior citizens with a variety of activities and projects; and
1-15           WHEREAS, To this end, rural community services centers in
1-16     Agua Dulce, Banquete, Bishop, and Robstown will sponsor a number of
1-17     local events in addition to the countywide celebration taking place
1-18     on May 13, 1999, in Corpus Christi; and
1-19           WHEREAS, "National Older American Month" provides an
1-20     excellent opportunity to reflect on the innumerable and invaluable
1-21     contributions made by our elders, and it is a great pleasure to
1-22     commend these distinguished citizens at this time; now, therefore,
1-23     be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby commemorate "National Older American Month" and
 2-2     extend to all those associated with Nueces County Community
 2-3     Services' month-long celebration best wishes for a successful and
 2-4     joyful observance.
