R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Opal Joyce Westbrook on May 1,
1-2 1999, at the age of 62, has brought a great loss to the family and
1-3 friends of this esteemed San Angelo resident; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Runnels County on May 2, 1936, Ms. Westbrook
1-5 moved to San Angelo in 1958 and soon became a member of Southgate
1-6 Church of Christ; in 1960 she began her lifelong career with the
1-7 San Angelo Standard-Times; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Ms. Westbrook started work at the newspaper as a
1-9 teletype operator and over the years she served in a number of
1-10 positions including supervisor, personnel manager, and human
1-11 resources manager, the position she held at the time of her
1-12 passing; and
1-13 WHEREAS, A civic-minded individual, Ms. Westbrook was a
1-14 member of the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities and
1-15 volunteered for the American Cancer Society; she was also a member
1-16 of the Texas Association of Business, the Job Service Employer
1-17 committee, and the San Angelo Personnel Association; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the love and
1-19 friendship of Joyce Westbrook will long miss her presence, and she
1-20 will be remembered with great affection and admiration for years to
1-21 come; now, therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Opal Joyce Westbrook
1-24 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-1 parents, Barney D. and Josephine Westbrook; to her brother, Edward
2-2 Westbrook, and his wife, Linda; to her nieces and nephew, Connie
2-3 Ross, Diana Burns, Brenda Carpenter, and Edward G. Westbrook; and
2-4 to the many other relatives and friends of this beloved woman; and,
2-5 be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-8 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-9 Opal Joyce Westbrook.
