R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Firefighter Corey Aiken recently received the Medal
 1-2     of Valor, and in light of this outstanding honor it is indeed
 1-3     appropriate to pay tribute to him for his heroic and life-saving
 1-4     actions; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, On December 8, 1998, the Texas City firefighters of
 1-6     Engine 33 arrived at a house on Herbert Lane that was engulfed in
 1-7     flames and subsequently learned that an 84-year-old woman was
 1-8     trapped inside; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Risking his life, firefighter Aiken entered the
1-10     burning home without spending precious time to take all normal
1-11     safety precautions, located the woman, and brought her out to
1-12     safety; in recognition of this heroic feat he was presented the
1-13     prestigious Medal of Valor, an honor seldom bestowed and earned
1-14     only by instinctive, spontaneous, and selfless actions; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Corey Aiken has distinguished himself as a
1-16     firefighter of amazing courage whose intrepid performance in the
1-17     line of duty truly makes him one of the Lone Star State's most
1-18     remarkable citizens; now, therefore, be it
1-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-20     Legislature hereby commend firefighter Corey Aiken for his heroic
1-21     actions and for earning the Medal of Valor and extend to him
1-22     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
1-23     further
1-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-1     prepared for Mr. Aiken as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-2     House of Representatives.
