                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Galveston resident Pedro "Pete"
 1-2     Enriquez, Jr., on April 17, 1999, brought a great loss to the
 1-3     family and many friends of this distinguished gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Enriquez was born October 26,
 1-5     1920, in Waelder, and was raised in Fort Worth; he served with
 1-6     distinction in the United States Army during World War II as a
 1-7     member of the 92nd Signal Corps, participating in the landing at
 1-8     Normandy; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After being honorably discharged as a sergeant, he
1-10     used the G.I.  Bill to help obtain his barber's license;
1-11     Mr. Enriquez then settled in Galveston, where he and a lifelong
1-12     friend successfully operated two barber shops; and
1-13           WHEREAS, This civic-minded individual was a staunch advocate
1-14     for equal employment opportunities and was instrumental in
1-15     establishing the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)
1-16     Council 151 and Operation SER in Galveston; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Enriquez donated his time and talents to LULAC
1-18     on both statewide and national councils and in 1966 earned the
1-19     distinction of being this estimable organization's "Man of the
1-20     Year"; he also served as an on the job trainer at SER, during which
1-21     time he helped train and find employment for minorities; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Wilson," he later worked
1-23     for Del Papa Distributing and was active with the Boys and Girls
1-24     Club, as the chairman of the Hitchcock MUD No. 19 Water District,
 2-1     and on the resident's council board of the Holland House in
 2-2     Galveston; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, A truly revered figure in the Galveston County
 2-4     Hispanic community, Pedro "Pete" Enriquez, Jr., distinguished
 2-5     himself as a man of ability and integrity, and although he will be
 2-6     deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of
 2-7     all those fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Pedro "Pete"
2-10     Enriquez, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
2-11     family: to his children, Lillie Ann Aleman, Ronald Enriquez,
2-12     Richard Enriquez, Diana Torralba and her husband, Miguel, Sylvia
2-13     Thornton and her husband, Art, and Robert "Bobby" Enriquez and his
2-14     wife, Lucy; to his former wife, Tommie Enriquez Jenkins; to his
2-15     brother, Jose Angel Enriquez and his wife, Cruz; to his sisters,
2-16     Regina McCourt, Tillie Enriquez, Lilly Ramos and her husband,
2-17     Porfilio, and Juanita Martinez and her husband, Manuel; to his 17
2-18     grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and to his many other
2-19     relatives and friends; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-22     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-23     Pedro "Pete" Enriquez, Jr.
