                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Dominic "Nick" De La Cruz on May 3,
 1-2     1999, at the age of 39, has brought a great loss to the many
 1-3     friends and relatives of this beloved man; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This native Texan was born on May 2, 1960, in the
 1-5     City of Houston and graduated from McArthur High School in Irving,
 1-6     Texas, in 1978; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, He married Vicki Lyn Brockway on May 16, 1980, and
 1-8     was a devoted and loving husband; he also received great joy and
 1-9     inspiration from his loving children and grandchildren; and
1-10           WHEREAS, A respected photographer for the Texas Road Warrior
1-11     magazine, Mr. De La Cruz also held the honorary position of
1-12     official Cook due to his delicious Barb-B-Que; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. De La Cruz had a passion for life including his
1-14     love of motorcycles, especially his own Goldwing; he was member
1-15     number 526 of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, as well as a
1-16     special lifetime member, number 40 out of only 100; in addition, he
1-17     was an active member of the Texas Independent Touring Society; and
1-18           WHEREAS, His involvement in the political process was
1-19     abundant, his knowledge as a precinct judge for District 8 was
1-20     great, his presence in the halls, offices, and galleries of the
1-21     Capitol will be deeply missed; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Dominic "Nick" De La Cruz was a man of integrity,
 2-1     honor and generosity, and his life stands as an eloquent testimony
 2-2     to the ability and intelligence of this esteemed gentleman; though
 2-3     he will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his spirit will
 2-4     surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose
 2-5     lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Dominic
 2-8     "Nick" De La Cruz and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
 2-9     family:  to his wife, Vicki De La Cruz; to his son, Damon Phariss;
2-10     to his daughter, Celena Laster; to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
2-11     De La Cruz; to his sister, Monica De La Cruz Estes; to his nephew,
2-12     Christopher Estes; to his grandchildren Christian and Colby Laster;
2-13     to his good friend, Sputnik; to the members of the Texas Motorcycle
2-14     Rights Association; and to the many other relatives and friends of
2-15     this beloved man and be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for the members of his family.
