R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride
 1-2     in recognizing Helen Ruth Hall of Houston, for this exceptional
 1-3     woman is retiring after 45 years of commitment to Texas
 1-4     schoolchildren, and her service and dedication indeed merit special
 1-5     legislative recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Ms. Hall was born in Frederick, Oklahoma, and
 1-7     graduated from Texas Southern University with a bachelor's degree
 1-8     in education; she went on to earn a master's degree from Prairie
 1-9     View A&M University, and, demonstrating a love for learning,
1-10     eventually earned her certification in ESL and a number of hours in
1-11     music course work as well; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Her earliest teaching assignments were with  Maynard
1-13     and Crosby schools; in 1976 she joined the Houston Independent
1-14     School District (HISD) where her tenure has been marked with much
1-15     distinction and honor; and
1-16           WHEREAS, She was named the Houston Area Association for
1-17     Bilingual Education ESL Teacher of the Year, HISD Teacher of the
1-18     Year, and Dance Educator of the Year and has a Texas State Teachers
1-19     Association Lifetime Membership; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Her work with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was
1-21     rewarded with Golden Life Member status and she has been appointed
1-22     among the Black Women of Achievement; in addition, her work with
1-23     the Friends of the Houston Ebony Opera Guild merited an Outstanding
1-24     Service award in both 1995 and 1997; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A member of the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church for 25
 2-2     years, Ms. Hall is a valued member of the choir, and in her spare
 2-3     time she enjoys reading and playing the piano; for almost half a
 2-4     century, this dynamic and enthusiastic educator has inspired
 2-5     countless Texas youth, and as she makes plans for a well-deserved
 2-6     retirement, it is a great pleasure to join her many friends and
 2-7     colleagues in honoring her; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby commend the career of schoolteacher Helen Ruth
2-10     Hall and extend to her warmest best wishes for great happiness in
2-11     the years to come; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for Ms. Hall as an expression of highest regard by the
2-14     Texas House of Representatives.
