No. 901 76R15311 BE-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in welcoming Port Arthur basketball coach James Gamble to the State 1-3 Capitol, for his record of success and determination in behalf of 1-4 Texas student-athletes truly merits special legislative 1-5 recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Coach Gamble officially retired from Lincoln High 1-7 School in 1988, posting a remarkable 640 wins and four state titles 1-8 during his initial tenure; he was coaxed back for the 1998-1999 1-9 season by Lincoln officials and quickly reestablished the school's 1-10 winning tradition; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Despite his decade-long absence, Coach Gamble 1-12 returned to the court with the same talent and motivational ability 1-13 that had brought his teams such success in the past, and he again 1-14 led the Lincoln High School Bumblebees to the Class 4A state 1-15 championship game; and 1-16 WHEREAS, For his team's outstanding 29-6 performance, and for 1-17 his inspirational and commendable return to basketball, Coach 1-18 Gamble was recognized by both the Port Arthur News and the Houston 1-19 Chronicle as Coach of the Year; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Through his significant contributions to the game 1-21 and his extraordinary rapport with players, Coach Gamble has become 1-22 an exemplary role model for basketball coaches in the Golden 1-23 Triangle and indeed for all of Texas; as he prepares to return to a 1-24 happy retirement of fishing, playing with his grandchildren, and 2-1 spending time with his beloved wife, it is an honor to join in 2-2 saluting this coaching legend; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby welcome renowned basketball coach James Gamble 2-5 to the State Capitol and extend to him best wishes for great 2-6 happiness in the years ahead; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for Coach Gamble as an expression of high regard by the 2-9 Texas House of Representatives.
