R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The National Association for Bilingual Education
 1-2     (NABE) was founded in 1975 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to
 1-3     addressing the educational needs of language-minority students in
 1-4     the United States; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, This commendable organization strives to advance the
 1-6     language competencies and multicultural understanding of all
 1-7     Americans and works to achieve this goal by advocating for
 1-8     educational policies and practices that grant equality of
 1-9     educational opportunity for the increasingly diverse student
1-10     populations in the United States; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Since its inception more than 20 years ago, NABE's
1-12     membership has comprised educators, parents, and community members
1-13     and leaders as well as governmental and business organizations;
1-14     these dedicated individuals help to promote the NABE agenda through
1-15     research, professional development, public education, and
1-16     legislative advocacy; and
1-17           WHEREAS, In seeking to enhance the lives of our nation's
1-18     language-minority students, their families, and the educators who
1-19     serve them, NABE has worked closely with government officials,
1-20     national education and ethnic organizations, corporations, local
1-21     educational agencies, and institutions of higher education, and in
1-22     doing so they have created outstanding results throughout the
1-23     United States; and
1-24           WHEREAS, NABE's 29th Annual International
 2-1     Bilingual/Multicultural Education Conference will be held in San
 2-2     Antonio from February 15-19, 2000, and, as the group prepares for
 2-3     this upcoming event, it is fitting that we commend the organization
 2-4     for its significant efforts to promote educational equity and
 2-5     excellence for all; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby commend the National Association for Bilingual
 2-8     Education for the outstanding contributions it has made to enhance
 2-9     the education of language-minority students in this state and
2-10     nation and extend to all those associated with the organization
2-11     best wishes for a successful conference in the new millennium; and,
2-12     be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the National Association for Bilingual Education as an
2-15     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
