R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes pride in
1-2 formally recognizing A. J. Judice, Jr., of Bridge City as an
1-3 Official Crawfish Race Commissioner of Texas; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Mr. Judice is the
1-5 proud son of Louisiana-born parents, a lineage strongly evident in
1-6 his thick Cajun accent; around the age of 18 he participated in his
1-7 first crawfish festival and began a lifelong association with these
1-8 unique events; and
1-9 WHEREAS, In 1963, when wagering on crawfish races became
1-10 legal, Texas Governor Preston Smith named Mr. Judice a crawfish
1-11 racing commissioner to help oversee the events; following a move to
1-12 Bridge City in the mid-1970s, he officiated at numerous local
1-13 festivals, including the Bridge City Crawfish Festival, which
1-14 helped raise money to build a community center, and the Orangefield
1-15 Crawfish Festival, an event he co-founded in 1981; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, A. J. Judice, Jr., has been a
1-17 faithful supporter and sponsor of many noteworthy crawfish
1-18 festivals, and it is indeed fitting that he be acknowledged for his
1-19 many significant efforts in this regard; now, therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby designate A. J. Judice, Jr., as an Official
1-22 Crawfish Race Commissioner of Texas and extend to him sincere best
1-23 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
1-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-1 prepared for Mr. Judice as an expression of high regard by the
2-2 Texas House of Representatives.
