R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On May 15, 1999, citizens across this state and 1-2 nation will celebrate Armed Forces Day and recognize the many 1-3 patriotic men and women who serve in the U.S. military; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Created in 1949 by President Harry S. Truman, Armed 1-5 Forces Day stemmed from the unification of all branches of service 1-6 under the Department of Defense, and was initiated to acknowledge 1-7 the vital work of the military services at home and across the 1-8 seas; and 1-9 WHEREAS, While honoring and acknowledging our servicemen and 1-10 servicewomen, the observance of Armed Forces Day has further helped 1-11 to expand public understanding of the role of the military in 1-12 civilian life and the types of jobs performed by military personnel 1-13 today; in addition, the day often affords members of the public a 1-14 unique opportunity to witness first-hand the state-of-the-art 1-15 equipment used to protect this nation's citizens; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Throughout our state's proud history, many dedicated 1-17 individuals who have been elected to serve in the Texas House of 1-18 Representatives have also protected the liberty of their fellow 1-19 citizens through military service; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Members of the house of representatives who have 1-21 served their nation with distinction in the armed forces include: 1-22 Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Leo Berman, U.S. Army; Captain Fred 1-23 Bosse, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Staff Sergeant Kim Brimer, 1-24 Texas Air National Guard; Corporal Warren Chisum, U.S. Army 2-1 Reserves; Captain Ron Clark, U.S. Army; Major Frank Corte, U.S. 2-2 Marine Reserves; Colonel David Counts, Texas Army National Guard; 2-3 Commander (Retired) Joe Crabb, Judge Advocate General Corps, U.S. 2-4 Navy Reserves; Staff Sergeant Joe Deshotel, U.S. Air Force 2-5 Reserves; Second Lieutenant Kenn S.
