R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary is truly a cause for 1-2 celebration, and on June 12, 1999, Jesus and Celia Plata will mark 1-3 this significant milestone in the company of their family and 1-4 friends; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Plata and the former Celia Trevino met as 1-6 teenagers at a church wedding in 1941, and they were married on 1-7 June 10, 1949, at the Second Presbyterian Church in San Benito; the 1-8 couple have enjoyed a happy and rewarding relationship that has 1-9 been blessed with five children and 11 grandchildren; Mr. and 1-10 Mrs. Plata welcomed their youngest grandchild into their close-knit 1-11 family on the occasion of their 42nd wedding anniversary; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Born on August 16, 1928, in San Benito, Mrs. Plata 1-13 graduated from high school in her hometown; when her youngest child 1-14 started school in 1966, she took a position as a social worker and 1-15 attended college classes at night; she later worked as a teacher's 1-16 aide in San Benito schools, and after earning her degree in 1982 1-17 she enjoyed teaching kindergarten until her retirement in 1993; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Plata was born on November 11, 1925, in San 1-19 Benito and attended school in Rio Hondo before dedicating himself 1-20 to a career in sales; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Still faithful members of the church where they were 1-22 married, which is now known as Iglesia Presbiteriana Getsemani, 1-23 this devoted couple have served as elders and deacons through the 1-24 years and attended the 1970 General Assembly; and 2-1 WHEREAS, For five decades, Mr. and Mrs. Plata have shared 2-2 many happy times and cherished memories; their commitment to each 2-3 other and to their community is a source of great pride to their 2-4 family and friends, and it is indeed appropriate that they be 2-5 honored at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Jesus "Chito" and Celia Plata on 2-8 the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them 2-9 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Plata as an expression of high regard by 2-12 the Texas House of Representatives.
