                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Nissan North America has selected 14 outstanding
 1-2     Texas students as 1999 recipients of Nissan Neighbors Good Citizens
 1-3     scholarships; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Now in its second year, the Nissan Neighbors Good
 1-5     Citizens Scholarship program grants $2,500 college scholarships to
 1-6     graduating students who have not only excelled in the classroom but
 1-7     have also displayed exceptional commitment to bettering their
 1-8     communities as volunteers and through other activities; on the
 1-9     recommendation of Governor George Bush, the recipients in Texas
1-10     were selected from students attending charter schools; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The proud young Texans whose diligent efforts have
1-12     earned them scholarships are: Rashaad Abdur-Rahman and LaKesha
1-13     Demings of Houston from Girls and Boys Prep Academy; Lauren Baily,
1-14     Joshua Choe, and Sandy Song of Irving and Bang Seo of Dallas from
1-15     Renaissance Charter School; Travis Croft of Clear Lake Shores from
1-16     Ed White School of Educational Enhancement; Claudia Garza, Brenda
1-17     Mottu, and Elsa Mungula of Houston from George Sanchez Charter
1-18     School; George Gonzalez of Weslaco from Technology Education;
1-19     Jessica Kemp of Wichita Falls from Bright Ideas Charter School;
1-20     Karen Perez of San Antonio from Southwest Preparatory School; and
1-21     Kristin Pipes of Houston from West Houston Charter School; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The scholarship winners come from diverse
1-23     socio-economic backgrounds and their academic aspirations for
1-24     college encompass a broad variety of institutions of higher
 2-1     learning; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The achievement of these exemplary students in
 2-3     claiming their Nissan Neighbors Good Citizens scholarships is a
 2-4     source of tremendous pride to their parents, teachers, and
 2-5     classmates, and they are indeed worthy of special praise and
 2-6     recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas winners of the 1999
 2-9     Nissan Neighbors Good Citizens scholarships and extend to them
2-10     sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for these deserving young scholars as an expression of
2-13     high regard  by the Texas House of Representatives.
