R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in welcoming the exceptional musical group Five Young Men to the 1-3 State Capitol, for their inspirational message of faith and joy 1-4 indeed merits special legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Composed of Carroll "CB" Braddy, Gregory Kirklin, 1-6 Bradford McWorther, Roman Tarplin, and Bruce Mayhew, Five Young Men 1-7 carries forward the musical traditions of such popular groups as 1-8 The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, and Boyz II Men, and by 1-9 blending its rich harmonies with electrifying choreography and a 1-10 dynamic stage presence, Five Young Men provides an unforgettable 1-11 musical experience for all who attend its performances; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The group hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and since its 1-13 founding has performed in venues ranging from the Apollo Theater in 1-14 New York to the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta and at 1-15 events as varied as the presidential inauguration and the Soul 1-16 Train Music Awards reception; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Under the guidance and direction of Maurice "The 1-18 General" Starr, Five Young Men is in capable hands, as Mr. Starr 1-19 has had much success with superstar bands in the past, including 1-20 New Edition and New Kids on the Block; and 1-21 WHEREAS, On its first album, "5 for 1," the band covers a 1-22 broad range of musical styles, including traditional spirituals and 1-23 hip-hop, but foremost in the music of Five Young Men is the 1-24 positive strength and sustenance they draw from their faith; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Their lyrics offer an uplifting and joyful 2-2 expression of personal direction that is echoing powerfully with 2-3 fans across Texas and throughout the nation, and it is a pleasure 2-4 to recognize them at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby welcome Five Young Men to the State Capitol and 2-7 extend to the group best wishes for great success and happiness in 2-8 the years ahead; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives.
