                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     Vanessa Gutierrez for being named the 1999 Youth of the Year by the
 1-3     U.S. Border Patrol-Laredo Sector; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Ms. Gutierrez is a tremendous source of pride to her
 1-5     family, for she has consistently exhibited a level of vitality,
 1-6     commitment, and compassion to which all young Texans can aspire;
 1-7     and
 1-8           WHEREAS, This exemplary young woman is a senior at United
 1-9     High School in Laredo, where she is ranked sixth out of the 287
1-10     students in her class, and her pursuit of academic excellence has
1-11     earned her well-deserved recognition as a member of the National
1-12     Honor Society; and
1-13           WHEREAS, During her tenure in high school, Ms. Gutierrez has
1-14     applied her unique gifts as a member of the student council and the
1-15     Interact Club and as a cheerleader, while also giving generously of
1-16     her time and energies to such worthy organizations as the Lions
1-17     Club and Special Olympics; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Vanessa Gutierrez has demonstrated a deep and
1-19     abiding concern for others, and her tireless efforts to create a
1-20     brighter future both for herself and her fellow citizens are indeed
1-21     worthy of special praise and recognition at this time; now,
1-22     therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate Vanessa Gutierrez on being named
 2-1     1999 Youth of the Year by the U.S. Border Patrol-Laredo Sector and
 2-2     extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 2-3     further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for Ms. Gutierrez as an expression of high regard by the
 2-6     Texas House of Representatives.
