R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
1-2 congratulate John R. Painter, Jr., on his selection as the
1-3 governor of Rotary District #5890 for 1999-2000; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A South Carolina native, Mr. Painter moved to
1-5 Houston with his family as a teenager; he graduated from
1-6 Channelview High School in 1959 and continued his pursuit of
1-7 academic excellence at Lee College in Baytown; and
1-8 WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman served his country with
1-9 distinction as a member of the Texas Air National Guard for more
1-10 than seven years, and he received an honorable discharge with the
1-11 rank of staff sergeant; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Painter and his wife, Diane, attend Holy Trinity
1-13 United Methodist Church, and they take great pride in their
1-14 close-knit family, which includes their three children and one
1-15 grandchild; and
1-16 WHEREAS, A Rotarian since 1984, Mr. Painter served as
1-17 assistant district governor for 1997-1998 and has been active in
1-18 the Youth Exchange; he was named Rotarian of the Year in 1991, is a
1-19 multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and earned a perfect 14-year
1-20 attendance record; and
1-21 WHEREAS, He has participated in the Rotary Club of North
1-22 Shore as a board member and has held the offices of president,
1-23 treasurer, and secretary; in addition, he has chaired numerous
1-24 district committees and has hosted district, district assembly,
2-1 world community service, and GSE team members conferences; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Painter has shared his time and energy with many
2-3 other worthy organizations as well; he is president of the board
2-4 of the National Tooling & Machine Association and the YMCA and
2-5 serves on the board of the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce
2-6 and the advisory board of the Galena Park Independent School
2-7 District; he has also contributed his talents as a member of the
2-8 Auction Committee of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and as
2-9 secretary of the Houston Association of Steel Plate Fabricators;
2-10 and
2-11 WHEREAS, His well-deserved honors include being named Small
2-12 Businessman of the Year by the Lions Club of Channelview and
2-13 selected as a recipient of the YMCA's Volunteer of the Year and
2-14 Clyde Speed awards; and
2-15 WHEREAS, John R. Painter, Jr., is truly an inspiration to all
2-16 who know him, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition at
2-17 this time; now, therefore, be it
2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-19 Legislature hereby congratulate John R. Painter, Jr., on his
2-20 selection as governor of Rotary District #5890 for 1999-2000 and
2-21 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
2-22 happiness; and, be it further
2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-24 prepared for Mr. Painter as an expression of high regard by the
2-25 Texas House of Representatives.
