                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Kayla Marie Johnson of Bay
 1-2     City's Selkirk Community on April 22, 1999, at the age of nine, has
 1-3     brought an irreplaceable loss to the family and many friends of
 1-4     this beloved young lady, and it is most appropriate that we honor
 1-5     her memory at this time; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Born on August 17, 1989, in Bay City, to Raymond Lee
 1-7     and Gladys Correa Johnson, Kayla enjoyed spending time with her
 1-8     family and she especially liked to pick roses with her father and
 1-9     walk on the track with her mother; and
1-10           WHEREAS, She was an outstanding fourth grade student at
1-11     Matagorda Elementary School and received awards for attaining the
1-12     honor roll and for excellence in conduct; Kayla's generosity and
1-13     concern for others represented a maturity far beyond her years and
1-14     she offered her help by participating in a Jump Rope for Heart
1-15     fund-raiser and by generating the most money in a penny drive; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A doll collector, she particularly enjoyed those
1-17     that  represented the "Tweety" character and her favorite pastimes
1-18     also included reading, jumping on the trampoline, and playing
1-19     Bingo; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Although it is immeasurably painful to say good-bye
1-21     to one so young and full of promise, it is fitting to remember that
1-22     while Kayla's time here was all too brief, her life profoundly
1-23     affected those around her, and her unique spirit of friendship and
1-24     devotion will surely live on in the hearts and minds of all those
 2-1     whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Kayla Marie Johnson and
 2-4     extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
 2-5     parents, Raymond Lee and Gladys Correa Johnson; to her sisters,
 2-6     Barbie Bickner, Maria Irizarry, and Magda I. Irizarry; to her
 2-7     brothers, Raymond Johnson, Jr., German Irizarry, Jr., and Benny
 2-8     Irizarry; and to the many other friends and relatives of this
 2-9     cherished young girl; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13     Kayla Marie Johnson.
