R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Washington-Jackson Math-Science Center in Wichita
 1-2     Falls has achieved the pinnacle of success with its receipt of the
 1-3     1999 Ronald P. Simpson Award, which signifies the school's status
 1-4     as the top magnet school in the nation; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The school earned this prestigious accolade by
 1-6     virtue of its exceptional academic program criteria, diversity of
 1-7     student body, and student achievement and performance; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Presented at the Magnet Schools of America
 1-9     Conference in Tampa, Florida, the Ronald P. Simpson Award included
1-10     prize money in the amount of $5,000 for the school; the students
1-11     and staff overwhelmingly voted to send $1,000 of the money, as well
1-12     as clothing, canned food, and other essential items, to the victims
1-13     of the recent devastating tornadoes in the Oklahoma City area; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of principal Jan
1-15     Banner, Washington-Jackson Math-Science Center has earned its
1-16     rightful place among the nation's elite schools; in addition to the
1-17     Ronald P. Simpson Award, the school has been one of only 15
1-18     recipients from across the nation of the Magnet Schools of Merit
1-19     Award for the past two years; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Washington-Jackson Math-Science Center is the best
1-21     school of its kind in the United States today, and it is indeed
1-22     appropriate that the school be given special legislative
1-23     recognition in light of this recent honor; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby congratulate the students, faculty, and
 2-2     administrators at Washington-Jackson Math-Science Center on winning
 2-3     the 1999 Ronald P. Simpson Award and extend to all those associated
 2-4     with the school sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
 2-5     it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for prominent display at Washington-Jackson Math-Science
 2-8     Center as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
 2-9     Representatives.
