R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Geren Chapman on April 5,
 1-2     1999, has brought a great loss to the family and friends of this
 1-3     beloved gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in Wilmer, Mr. Chapman graduated from The
 1-5     University of Texas at Austin after being educated in Dallas
 1-6     schools; in 1947 this devoted man married the former Billie Frances
 1-7     Stapleton, with whom he shared 52 years of happiness; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Chapman proudly served his country as a member
 1-9     of the U.S.  Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and
1-10     upon his return to civilian life he became a member of the VFW and
1-11     the American Legion; he was a member of several other
1-12     organizations, including the Austin Chapter of Civitan
1-13     International, Wilshire Presbyterian Church in Austin, and the
1-14     Harbor Lights Town House Board of Directors in Keowee Key, Salem,
1-15     South Carolina, his place of residence at the time of his passing;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, A sports enthusiast, Mr. Chapman contributed to
1-18     young people's appreciation of athletics by coaching Babe Ruth
1-19     League baseball in Austin for many years, and he furthered his
1-20     commitment to humanity by cofounding the Boys Club International,
1-21     Austin Chapter, and by serving as a hospice volunteer; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Geren Chapman enjoyed boating and playing golf, and
1-23     his love for life provided inspiration for members of his family
1-24     and countless friends, and his spirit will continue to live on in
 2-1     the hearts and minds of those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be
 2-2     it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Geren Chapman and
 2-5     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,
 2-6     Billie Chapman; to his sister, Virginia Gilliland; to his brothers
 2-7     and sisters-in-law, James J. and Hazel Chapman, Jr., and Billy Jack
 2-8     and Hilda Chapman; to his niece, Lynn Shevack; and to the many
 2-9     other relatives and friends of this esteemed gentleman; and, be it
2-10     further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-13     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-14     Geren Chapman.
