By Uresti H.R. No. 962 76R15555 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Robert I. Solenberger is an outstanding surgeon 1-2 who has made impressive contributions to health care in Texas and 1-3 in the military through his many years of dedicated service in 1-4 peacetime and during conflict; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Oakland, California, Dr. Solenberger 1-6 earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the 1-7 University of New Mexico in 1965; he continued his pursuit of 1-8 academic excellence at the University of Maryland School of 1-9 Medicine and was awarded a medical degree in 1974; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He completed his surgical internship and surgical 1-11 residency at the Medical College of Georgia; he received 1-12 specialized training in pediatric surgery at The Johns Hopkins 1-13 Hospital and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, In 1968, Dr. Solenberger enlisted in the United 1-16 States Army, beginning an exemplary career serving his country that 1-17 has led through the years to his current rank of colonel and his 1-18 role as chief of pediatric surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center at 1-19 Fort Sam Houston; he and his wife, the former Janet Ruzza, make 1-20 their home in San Antonio; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Honored on numerous occasions for his exemplary 1-22 military service, this esteemed physician has been named the 1-23 recipient of awards and decorations including the Kuwait Liberation 1-24 Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Southwest Asia Campaign with 2-1 three stars, Army Commendation Medal, and Order of Military Medical 2-2 Merit, to name but a few; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Dr. Solenberger has held post command positions at 2-4 the 41st Combat Support Hospital at Fort Sam Houston and at 2-5 assignments in Honduras and Northern Egypt; he holds staff 2-6 appointments at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, 2-7 Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Darnall 2-8 Army Community Hospital at Fort Hood, The University of Texas 2-9 Health Science Center at San Antonio, Uniformed Services University 2-10 of the Health Sciences at Bethesda, Maryland, and Joint Services 2-11 Medical Readiness Training Center at Fort Sam Houston; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Dr. Solenberger is affiliated with a number of 2-13 professional organizations, including the Texas Society of 2-14 Pediatric Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic 2-15 Surgeons, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, 2-16 San Antonio Surgical Society, American College of Surgeons, and 2-17 Rush Medical Society; he has also authored articles on a variety of 2-18 topics for publication in medical journals; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Solenberger 2-20 has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his profession, 2-21 community, state, and nation, and it is indeed appropriate that he 2-22 receive special recognition for his exceptional record of 2-23 achievement; now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Robert I. Solenberger on the many 2-26 significant contributions he has made to the health care of 2-27 civilians and military personnel in his community and state; and, 3-1 be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-3 prepared for Dr. Solenberger as an expression of high regard by the 3-4 Texas House of Representatives.
