                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Superintendent Jack Jordan exemplifies deep
 1-2     commitment to the Harlandale Independent School District and he has
 1-3     earned the respect of all who know him; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Since accepting the challenges of the district's top
 1-5     position in May 1997, Mr. Jordan has promoted a learning
 1-6     environment that benefits each student so that all have the
 1-7     opportunity to reach their potential; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan has been instrumental in the approval of
 1-9     $45 million in school bonds, which brought new classrooms and
1-10     library facilities for Collier Elementary, Gillette Elementary, and
1-11     the Multihandicapped Center as well as additions and renovations to
1-12     19 other schools; and
1-13           WHEREAS, This esteemed administrator is one of the organizers
1-14     of the Harlandale Education Foundation that seeks funding and
1-15     corporate sponsorship for the purchase of equipment, such as
1-16     computers; in the fall of 1999, the doors will open to a magnet
1-17     school implemented by Mr. Jordan that will focus on leadership and
1-18     public service, and 100 freshmen will be chosen to attend this
1-19     innovative program based at McCollum High School; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan began his career in education in 1955 as
1-21     a teacher at Harris Junior High School in the San Antonio
1-22     Independent School District; he then dedicated 3-1/2 decades to the
1-23     Northside School District, where he served as a coach, principal,
1-24     and deputy superintendent, and as superintendent for 12 years; he
 2-1     began a new venture in 1993 as an education consultant and
 2-2     supervised student teachers at The University of Texas at San
 2-3     Antonio; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, A strong commitment to education is evident in the
 2-5     Jordan family; his wife, Ann, is a former English teacher, and two
 2-6     of their three children have chosen professions as a math teacher
 2-7     and a high school counselor; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Jack Jordan has set high
 2-9     standards to which all teachers and administrators may aspire, and
2-10     he is indeed worthy of special recognition at this time; now,
2-11     therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-13     Legislature hereby commend Jack Jordan for his outstanding service
2-14     to the students, staff, and parents of the Harlandale Independent
2-15     School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for success
2-16     and happiness in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18     prepared for Mr. Jordan as an expression of high regard by the
2-19     Texas House of Representatives.
