                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Dixon of San Antonio is an outstanding civic
 1-2     leader, and her myriad achievements are indeed worthy of special
 1-3     recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This esteemed woman received a bachelor of science
 1-5     degree from Oklahoma State University in 1969, a master of arts
 1-6     degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 1974, and a
 1-7     doctor of philosophy degree from Walden University in 1978, and she
 1-8     has earned a host of Texas professional certifications; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon started her career as a speech pathologist
1-10     for Austin State School for Retarded Children in 1969; following
1-11     service with Copperas Cove and North East independent school
1-12     districts, she began a distinguished 18-year tenure with the Judson
1-13     Independent School District, serving as speech pathologist,
1-14     accreditation coordinator, assistant principal, administrative
1-15     assistant to the superintendent, and director of special programs;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, She was named superintendent of the Somerset
1-18     Independent School District in 1990, and under her leadership, the
1-19     district boasts improved academics, new and enhanced facilities,
1-20     and the highest teacher salaries in Bexar County; and
1-21           WHEREAS, The civic-minded Dr. Dixon has also been active with
1-22     the American Cancer Society, Education Task Force American Heart
1-23     Association, and Administrative Women in Education and as chairman
1-24     of the Texas Secondary Committee of Southern Association of
 2-1     Colleges and Schools, Regional Advisory Committee of the Region 20
 2-2     Educational Service Center, and the San Antonio Teacher Education
 2-3     Advisory Council; she also was a member of the North East ISD board
 2-4     of trustees from 1988 to 1996 and served two terms as vice
 2-5     president; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, In addition to authoring numerous publications for
 2-7     the Texas Study Research Journal and TEPSA Journal, she has been
 2-8     awarded an Honorary State FFA Degree and was selected as the
 2-9     outstanding Community Builder by the Somerset Masonic Lodge; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Throughout her 27 years as an educator, Dr. Dixon
2-11     has distinguished herself as a dedicated community leader, and it
2-12     is most fitting that she be recognized for her notable
2-13     accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-15     Legislature hereby commend Dr. Ann Dixon for her many professional
2-16     achievements and civic contributions and extend to her sincere best
2-17     wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for Dr. Dixon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-20     House of Representatives.
