R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride
 1-2     in recognizing Robert Zamora, superintendent of the South San
 1-3     Antonio Independent School District and well-known high school
 1-4     coach, for his many years of exceptional service to education in
 1-5     San Antonio indeed merit special legislative recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Mr. Zamora was born in San Antonio to Ricardo and
 1-7     Bonifacia Zamora; his parents placed a high importance on
 1-8     education, and despite their frequent travels the family returned
 1-9     to San Antonio for the start of school each year; and
1-10           WHEREAS,  He learned well from his parents' example, and
1-11     Mr. Zamora soon made school a priority of his own; a dedicated
1-12     scholar, he took an interest in sports as well, and by the time he
1-13     entered South San Antonio High School he was an accomplished
1-14     student athlete; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Zamora played a vital role on a number of
1-16     winning South San Antonio teams, including his senior year starting
1-17     positions on the state championship basketball and baseball teams;
1-18     his superb athletic skills combined with his academic achievements
1-19     earned him a scholarship to Baylor University, from which he
1-20     graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1965; and
1-21           WHEREAS, His first professional assignment was with LaSalle
1-22     High School in San Antonio, but his ability and enthusiasm soon led
1-23     him to the position of head baseball coach at his high school alma
1-24     mater in 1969; his tenure there was highly successful and included
 2-1     eight straight district titles and two trips to the state finals,
 2-2     and in 1976 he was named Baseball Coach of the Year by the Texas
 2-3     Baseball Coaches Association; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Zamora became principal at Hutchins
 2-5     Elementary School and later was assistant athletic director at
 2-6     South San Antonio High School, and his commitment to student
 2-7     achievement earned him wide respect; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, An admirable family man as well, Mr. Zamora and his
 2-9     beloved wife of 34 years, Mary Helen, have been blessed with a son,
2-10     Robert; their family has grown to include their daughter-in-law,
2-11     Irene, and two grandchildren; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Mr. Zamora was inducted into the Texas High School
2-13     Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997, and he remains a dynamic and
2-14     valued force in Texas high school athletics and education; and
2-15           WHEREAS, He was appointed superintendent of the South San
2-16     Antonio Independent School District in 1998 and continues to
2-17     dedicate himself to the education of the youth of Texas; in light
2-18     of his successful record, it is a great pleasure to join in
2-19     honoring him at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas
2-21     Legislature hereby commend Robert Zamora for his efforts in behalf
2-22     of Texas schoolchildren and extend to him  best wishes for success
2-23     and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-25     prepared for Mr. Zamora as an expression of highest regard by the
2-26     Texas House of Representatives.
