R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On October 10, 1999, the Reverend Fred Wallis will 1-2 join with the members of the congregation of Sulphur Springs Church 1-3 of the Nazarene in celebrating the church's 75th anniversary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Twenty charter members comprised the church when it 1-5 was organized on August 21, 1924, under the leadership of District 1-6 Superintendent J. W. Bost and the Reverend B. F. Ferrel, the first 1-7 of 20 pastors the church has welcomed throughout its history; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In order to accommodate a growing membership, 1-9 services were moved from a tabernacle on Foscue Street to a 1-10 building on the corner of Main and Locust streets, when the 1-11 Reverend J. E. Williamson led the church; in June 1939, the 1-12 mortgage for that property was paid off under the leadership of the 1-13 Reverend J. C. Dobson, whose son, Dr. James Dobson, founded the 1-14 "Focus on the Family" ministries; a three-story annex was built in 1-15 1944 under the pastorship of R. T. Williams, Jr.; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Now located at 1300 South League Street, the church 1-17 has occupied its current home since March 29, 1964, when the 1-18 sanctuary and annex were completed under the pastorate of Reverend 1-19 Lawrence Alexander; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Sulphur Springs Church of the Nazarene is affiliated 1-21 with the Dallas District of the International Church of the 1-22 Nazarene and the Educational Zone of Southern Nazarene University, 1-23 located in Bethany, Oklahoma; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Through three-fourths of a century, Sulphur Springs 2-1 Church of the Nazarene members have demonstrated a steadfast 2-2 commitment to bettering their community, and their efforts in this 2-3 regard are truly worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be 2-4 it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Fred Wallis and the 2-7 members of Sulphur Springs Church of the Nazarene on the occasion 2-8 of the church's 75th anniversary and commend them for contributing 2-9 to the church's dynamic history of providing support and 2-10 inspiration to generations of Texans; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Sulphur Springs Church of the Nazarene as an 2-13 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
